Chapter 1: The Woman Left In The Rain

Chapter 1: The Woman Left In The Rain

The rain kept falling.

But Grace Blackwell no longer felt the cold.

Not after everything she had lost.

Her husband.

Her home.

Her dignity.

And the last memory of her mother.

She stood frozen on the courthouse steps, wrapped in Nathaniel Cross’s expensive coat, unable to understand why the most powerful man in the city had stopped for someone like her.

"Why are you helping me?" Grace whispered.

Nathaniel looked at her.

For a moment, the billionaire CEO who terrified Wall Street looked different.

Almost human.

"Because ten years ago," he said quietly, "someone saved my life when I had nothing."

Grace frowned.

"What does that have to do with me?"

Nathaniel looked toward Jonathan’s Mercedes.

"Everything."

Inside the car, Jonathan watched with growing fear.

He knew that name.

Everyone knew Nathaniel Cross.

The man who could destroy companies overnight.

The man who never involved himself in other people's problems.

So why was he protecting Grace?

Jonathan’s mistress leaned closer.

"Jonathan... who is she?"

Jonathan swallowed.

"I don't know."

And that frightened him.

Because for the first time...

Jonathan Blackwell realized he never truly knew the woman he destroyed.
