Chapter 8 - THE MONEY THAT BELONGED TO LILY

The next morning, I went to the family vault.

A place I had not entered in years.

The Moretti family kept everything there.

Contracts.

Records.

Private documents.

Secrets.

Especially secrets.

Daniel followed me inside.

“You’re sure about this?”

I opened the security door.

“Yes.”

The vault lights turned on one by one.

Cold white light.

No warmth.

No comfort.

Just facts.

I found Michael’s files in the third cabinet.

His death records.

His business documents.

And finally

The trust agreement.

I opened it.

The first page was clear.

Beneficiary:

Lily Harper Moretti.

My hands tightened.

My niece.

My family.

A child nobody wanted me to know existed.

The trust had been created to support her medical care, education, and future.

I turned the page.

Then stopped.

A transfer record.

$2.3 million.

Gone.

I looked at Daniel.

“Where did it go?”

He checked the records.

“Multiple accounts.”

“Names.”

He hesitated.

“Adrian.”

“Names.”

He handed me the report.

I read it.

My anger grew with every line.

Evelyn Crane.

Marcus Moretti.

And one more.

My father’s former attorney.

Arthur Vale.

A man who had disappeared after my father’s death.

“Find him.”

Daniel looked surprised.

“Now?”

“Now.”

Before we could leave, my phone rang.

Anna.

I answered immediately.

“Anna?”

Her voice was shaking.

“Mr. Moretti
”

“What happened?”

“It’s Lily.”

I stood straighter.

“What happened?”

“She’s gone.”

The room went silent.

“What do you mean gone?”

“She was in the garden with me.”

“Where are you?”

“The east courtyard.”

I was already moving.

Daniel followed.

When I reached the courtyard, Anna was crying.

Security guards searched the area.

And then I saw something on the ground.

Lily’s stuffed rabbit.

The same rabbit she carried every day.

I picked it up.

There was a small piece of paper attached.

My heart tightened.

A message.

Three words.

“Stop asking questions.”

I looked around.

Someone had taken a child.

Not for money.

Not for revenge.

For silence.

“Lock the gates,” I ordered.

The guards immediately moved.

Nobody leaves.

Nobody enters.

Then one of the cameras flickered.

Daniel checked the screen.

His face changed.

“Adrian
”

“What?”

“The person who took her.”

I stepped closer.

The footage showed someone carrying Lily through the side entrance.

The image was blurry.

But clear enough.

I knew that walk.

I knew those shoulders.

I knew that person.

May you like

My own brother.

Marcus.
