Chapter 11 - The Letter That Changed Everything

The room went silent.
Nobody moved.
Nobody spoke.
Daniel Moretti stared at the handwritten note in his hands.
Six words.
Six words that destroyed thirty years of trust.
“Daniel… don’t trust Eleanor.”
Annie looked at her grandmother.
Then at Daniel.
Then back at the letter.
Her small voice broke the silence.
“Is it true?”
Eleanor closed her eyes.
A tear rolled down her cheek.
“Annie…”
“Did my mom really write that?”
Eleanor didn’t answer.
And that hurt more than anything.
Because Annie had spent her whole life believing her grandmother was the one person who would never hide anything from her.
But now every answer seemed to create another question.
Daniel turned toward Eleanor.
“Tell me the truth.”
His voice was quiet.
Too quiet.
That was when everyone knew he was hurt.
Not angry.
Hurt.
“Claire trusted you,” Daniel said.
“She trusted you with her daughter.”
Eleanor looked at him.
“I did everything I could to protect her.”
“Then why did she write this?”
The old woman looked down.
“Because she was afraid.”
“Of me?”
Eleanor shook her head.
“No.”
“Of what would happen if you knew the truth.”
Victor watched from the corner.
Enjoying every second.
“You see, Daniel?”
He smiled.
“You spent thirty years protecting the wrong person.”
Daniel turned sharply.
“Get out.”
Victor laughed.
“You still don’t understand.”
He pointed at Annie.
“She is the reason this all started.”
Annie stepped back.
“What do you mean?”
Victor looked at her.
“Your mother found something.”
“What?”
“A secret.”
Daniel’s eyes narrowed.
“What secret?”
Victor smiled.
“The kind of secret powerful people kill for.”
Before anyone could ask another question, the building suddenly went dark.
Every screen turned black.
The security system shut down.
Marcus grabbed his weapon.
“Everyone stay where you are.”
The emergency lights turned red.
Then Daniel heard something.
A sound from the hallway.
Footsteps.
Multiple people.
Coming closer.
Victor smiled.
“They’re here.”
Daniel looked at Annie.
“Stay behind me.”
But Annie noticed something.
Victor wasn’t trying to escape.
He was waiting.
Because whoever was coming…
was not coming for him.
May you like
They were coming for Annie.
