Chapter 5 - THE WOMAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH

Griffin stared at the photograph.
Nobody spoke.
Because everyone understood what it meant.
Someone had been inside his private space.
Someone had access.
Someone close.
The picture showed Griffin sleeping.
Taken from the corner of his bedroom.
The date on the back was three days earlier.
Marcus looked disturbed.
"This is impossible."
Griffin turned toward him.
"Why?"
Marcus hesitated.
"Because only a few people have access to that floor."
The silence afterward was terrifying.
Only a few people.
Griffin looked at his security chief.
"Who?"
The man swallowed.
"Your executive assistant."
Griffin's eyes narrowed.
"Daniel?"
The security chief nodded.
But then another voice interrupted.
"No."
Everyone turned.
It was Celeste.
She was standing at the end of the hallway.
Alive.
Calm.
Perfect.
Like nothing had happened.
Griffin stared at her.
"Where were you?"
She ignored the question.
Instead, she looked at me.
"You."
Her voice was filled with anger.
"You ruined everything."
I stepped back.
Griffin moved between us.
"Careful."
Celeste laughed.
"You really believe her?"
She pointed at me.
"A random florist appears, makes an accusation, and suddenly everyone thinks I'm a murderer?"
Nobody answered.
Because the truth was...
it sounded impossible.
Except for one thing.
The champagne.
The photo.
The conversation.
Too many pieces.
Celeste looked at Griffin.
"Ask her why she was really in that hallway."
My heart stopped.
"What?"
Celeste smiled.
"Ask her who hired her."
Griffin looked at me.
And suddenly, I understood.
Someone had been investigating me too.
"I was hired by the hotel."
Celeste shook her head.
"No."
She stepped closer.
"You were hired by someone who wanted you there."
The hallway went silent.
Griffin looked at his security chief.
"Check the florist contract."
Minutes later, the answer came.
And it shocked everyone.
Because my name was not on the original list.
Someone had added me.
Someone had specifically requested Fay Lawson.
Someone wanted me in that corridor.
Someone wanted me to hear that conversation.
Griffin looked at me.
"Fay."
His voice was different now.
"Who sent you here?"
I had no answer.
Because I honestly didn't know.
Then my phone vibrated again.
Another unknown message.
I opened it.
This time, there was a picture attached.
A picture of me entering the hotel earlier that night.

The message underneath said:
You were never supposed to save him.
