Chapter 3: The Face From His Forgotten Past
Alexander took a step backward.
“No…”
Emma looked nervous.
“Are you okay?”
He didn’t answer.
Instead, he reached into his wallet.
He pulled out an old photograph.
The picture was worn from years of being carried around.
Emma looked at it.
And her heart stopped.
The photograph showed a young woman.
A woman who looked exactly like her.
A younger version of her mother.
Emma whispered:
“Where did you get that?”
Alexander stared at her.
“Your mother.”
The room became silent.
“My mother?”
Alexander nodded slowly.
“She saved my life twenty-five years ago.”
Emma’s breathing changed.
“My mother never told me about you.”
His eyes filled with pain.
“Because she wanted you to forget me.”
“Why?”
Alexander looked down.
“Because she believed I betrayed her.”
Emma froze.
