Chapter 1: The Dress She Was Never Allowed To Touch
Emma had never entered a luxury boutique before.
She only came inside because the red gown in the window caught her attention while she was walking home.
It was unlike anything she had ever seen.
The fabric shimmered beneath the lights. The delicate details looked like they belonged on a movie star.
For a few seconds, Emma forgot about her old sweater, her simple shoes, and the way people often judged her before knowing her.
She simply admired the dress.
Then she reached out.
Just one touch.
That was all.
But before her fingers touched the fabric, a sharp voice stopped her.
“Don’t touch that.”
Emma froze.
The boutique manager, Victoria, rushed toward her with a disgusted expression.
“Do you have any idea how expensive that dress is?”
Everyone inside turned to look.
Emma immediately pulled her hand back.
“I’m sorry. I wasn’t going to damage it.”
Victoria looked at her clothes and smiled coldly.
“People who can’t afford something should learn to admire it from a distance.”
The words hurt more than Emma expected.
She lowered her head and turned toward the door.
She was used to being invisible.
Used to people deciding her worth before knowing her story.
But as she reached the exit…
A calm voice stopped her.
“Wait.”
Emma turned around.
A tall man in a black suit stood near the entrance.
Everyone recognized him.
Alexander Reed.
A billionaire businessman known throughout the city.
And he was staring directly at her.
Not her clothes.
Not her appearance.
May you like
Her face.
Like he had just seen a ghost.
