Chapter 5 - THE WOMAN WHO WAS NEVER SUPPOSED TO RETURN

The FBI agent immediately looked at Rachel.
âDid she say her mother was alive?â
Emily nodded.
âShe told me to stay quiet.â
Rachel knelt beside her.
âWhere is your mother now?â
Emilyâs eyes filled with tears.
âI donât know.â
Victoria suddenly moved toward the door.
The agent stopped her.
âMrs. Victoria.â
âYouâre not leaving.â
Victoria stared at him.
âYou have no idea who youâre dealing with.â
The agent answered calmly.
âI know exactly who Iâm dealing with.â
âA woman terrified of what a six-year-old might reveal.â
That sentence destroyed Victoriaâs confidence.
David watched silently.
Rachel noticed.
âDavid.â
âWhat happened to Emilyâs mother?â
David looked away.
âI didnât know she would disappear.â
The room went silent.
Rachel whispered.
âYou helped her disappear.â
Davidâs face turned pale.
Before he could answer.
Emily pointed toward a drawer.
âThere is something inside.â
Rachel opened it.
Inside was an old photograph.
