Chapter 2: The Suitcase Behind the Door

Chapter 2: The Suitcase Behind the Door

Three days earlier, I discovered the truth.

Not because Ethan confessed.

Not because he felt guilty.

Because he made one mistake.

He left his office door unlocked.

For months, Ethan had become secretive.

Longer meetings.

More business dinners.

More “late nights.”

I had asked him.

Every time, the answer was the same.

“You’re imagining things, Elena.”

So I stopped asking.

And I started watching.

Behind his office door was a suitcase.

Hidden.

Waiting.

My heart already knew before my hands opened it.

Inside were clothes I had never seen.

Expensive linen shirts.

New cuff links.

A bottle of cologne Ethan never wore around me.

A black jacket that still had the store tag attached.

Not business clothes.

Vacation clothes.

Romantic clothes.

I sat on the floor holding his suitcase.

And I realized something painful.

I wasn’t discovering that my husband was cheating.

I was discovering that my husband had already built a second life.

I could have screamed.

I could have called him.

I could have called Vanessa.

Instead…

I packed his favorite blue tie.

The same tie he wore when he wanted to look successful.

Then I closed the suitcase.

May you like

Exactly the way I found it.

Because I needed him to believe his secret was safe.
