Rebecca’s older brother Daniel stepped inside slowly.

His eyes moved across the room.

The broken furniture.

Rebecca’s trembling hands.

Lily hiding behind her mother.

Then his eyes stopped on Trevor.

The silence became unbearable.

“Tell me I’m seeing this wrong.”

Trevor immediately stepped forward.

“You don’t understand what happened.”

Daniel laughed quietly.

“No. I understand exactly what happened.”

Trevor tried to control the situation.

“Rebecca is emotional because of the pregnancy. She exaggerates things.”

Rebecca looked at her husband.

For years, she had listened to him rewrite reality.

But tonight was different.
