Chapter 1 — The Door That Changed Everything

Chapter 1 — The Door That Changed Everything

Rebecca stood frozen in the middle of the living room, her daughter Lily pressed tightly against her chest.

Her little girl was shaking.

Rebecca’s other hand rested protectively over her pregnant belly, feeling the faint movement of the baby who had no idea what kind of storm had just happened around her.

The broken lamp.

The shattered glass.

The overturned furniture.

Everything in the room was evidence of Trevor’s anger.

But Trevor didn’t see himself as the villain.

He never did.

“It wasn’t like that,” he said quickly, adjusting his shirt and forcing his voice to sound calm.

“You pushed me too far, Rebecca.”

Those words hurt more than the shouting.

More than the fear.

Because Trevor wasn’t sorry.

He was preparing his excuse.

Then suddenly—

The front door opened.

Trevor turned.

Rebecca stopped breathing.

A voice came from the doorway.

“Rebecca?”

One word.

One familiar voice.

And Trevor’s entire expression changed.

Because the person standing there had seen everything.
