CHAPTER 8 — THE FAMILY SHE CHOSE

Eight months later...

Sadie stood beneath clear autumn skies wearing another blue dress.

This time...

It wasn't stained with blood.

It was her wedding day.

A thin scar remained beneath her left eye, but doctors had saved her vision.

The courthouse had already delivered its verdict.

Gregory was sentenced to decades in prison for attempted murder, conspiracy, fraud, and forgery.

Brenda received a lengthy sentence for her role in the conspiracy.

Melanie was convicted of conspiracy and obstruction of justice after her own emails destroyed her defense.

The stolen estate was restored to its rightful owner.

Sadie.

Walter Brooks attended the wedding as the honored guest.

When the officiant asked who would give the bride away, Walter quietly stood.

"I've spent thirty years wishing someone would finally protect this girl."

"Today... I have that honor."

Wyatt smiled as Sadie walked toward him.

After the ceremony, they visited her grandmother's grave.

Sadie laid down her bouquet.

"They tried to take everything from me," she whispered.

"But they forgot one thing."

"The truth always leaves witnesses."

Wyatt took her hand.

Together, they walked away—not as victims haunted by betrayal, but as a family built on love instead of blood.

For the first time in her life, Sadie understood that being related by blood did not make someone family.

Sometimes, justice gives you the family you were meant to have all along.
