CHAPTER 1 — THE EVIDENCE THEY THOUGHT WOULD DISAPPEAR

The ambulance doors slammed shut.
Wyatt refused to let go of Sadie's hand as paramedics rushed toward Riverside Methodist Hospital.
Blood soaked through the gauze wrapped around the left side of her face.
Doctors immediately ordered emergency surgery.
The CT scan revealed multiple fractures around her eye socket and cheekbone.
There was a real possibility she could lose vision permanently.
Before the anesthetic pulled her under, Sadie grabbed the wrist of the attending nurse.
"My clothes..."
The nurse leaned closer.
"...don't wash anything."
"The brick..."
"Keep it."
"The blood..."
"Preserve every piece of evidence."
The nurse looked surprised.
"You think this was intentional?"
Sadie slowly nodded.
"My parents tried to kill me."
Silence filled the room.
The nurse immediately contacted hospital security.
Within minutes, every item—the broken brick, Wyatt's shattered phone, Sadie's blood-soaked dress, and every medical photograph—was sealed as legal evidence.
Meanwhile...
Back at Gregory's house...
Brenda poured herself a glass of wine.
"They'll never press charges."
Gregory shrugged.
"She's still our daughter."
Melanie smiled.
"And if she isn't..."
May you like
"She's already ruined."
None of them knew the hospital had just preserved enough evidence for an attempted murder investigation.
