CHAPTER 2 — THE SIX PEOPLE WHO SAW EVERYTHING

The next morning, Detective Laura Bennett arrived.
She expected another domestic dispute.
Instead...
She found six independent witnesses.
The electrician.
His apprentice.
A mail carrier.
A woman walking her dog.
A delivery driver.
And the elderly neighbor across the street.
Each statement matched perfectly.
Gregory threw the brick.
Brenda laughed.
Melanie encouraged everything.
No one helped Sadie.
Even better...
The electrician had been recording a video for his supervisor when he stepped out of the truck.
His camera accidentally captured the final seconds before impact.
Not the strike itself...
But Gregory raising the brick.
Brenda saying,
"Let's see if he still loves you now."
And Melanie smiling.
Detective Bennett quietly whispered,
May you like
"This isn't assault anymore."
"This is conspiracy."
