CHAPTER 7 — THE LAST CONFRONTATION

Months later, Jessica returned.

But she wasn’t the same woman.

She had lost her reputation.

Her money.

Her control.

She stood outside our house.

“Lawrence, please.”

I opened the door.

“What do you want?”

She looked at May.

“I want forgiveness.”

May studied her carefully.

Then she spoke.

“I forgive you.”

Jessica started crying.

“But forgiveness doesn’t mean trust.”

Those words were stronger than revenge.

Because May wasn’t trying to destroy her.

She was simply refusing to let herself be hurt again.

Jessica walked away.

May you like

And this time…

Nobody stopped her.
