CHAPTER 6 — THE SON WHO FINALLY APOLOGIZED

Christopher came to my house one rainy night.
He stood at the door for several seconds before speaking.
“I’m sorry.”
Two words.
The same simplicity as “It was an accident.”
But this time…
They were real.
“I failed you.”
He looked toward the kitchen.
“I failed Mom.”
May stood behind me.
She didn’t forgive him immediately.
And I respected that.
Because forgiveness was not something he could demand.
It was something he had to earn.
“I should have protected her.”
Christopher’s voice broke.
“I was scared of losing my marriage.”
I answered quietly.
“You already lost something more important.”
May you like
“What?”
“Your courage.”
