Chapter 9 - THE ACCOUNT THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

The Blackwood company building had never felt so cold.
I walked through the same halls where my grandfather built an empire.
But now every room felt like it contained another lie.
The lawyer placed the documents on the table.
âThis account was created under your motherâs name.â
I looked at my mother.
âWhy?â
She remained silent.
Then she finally spoke.
âBecause I knew Arthur would eventually try to steal everything.â
I frowned.
âBut you said you trusted Dad.â
âI did.â
She looked at me.
âBut I didnât trust Arthur.â
Inside the account were millions of dollars.
Money that had been untouched for thirty years.
The lawyer continued.
âThis wasnât just money.â
He placed another file down.
âIt was evidence.â
I opened it.
Inside were recordings.
Documents.
Names.
Including powerful people who helped Arthur.
Politicians.
Business owners.
Doctors.
Everyone who participated in destroying my family.
My hands shook.
âHe planned everything.â
My mother nodded.
âYes.â
âThen why hide this?â
Her eyes filled with tears.
âBecause if Arthur knew I had this, he would never stop hunting us.â
I looked at the evidence.
The truth.
The reason my family suffered.
Then another document caught my attention.
A birth certificate.
Not mine.
Another child.
I looked at my mother.
âWhat is this?â
Her face changed.
âVincentâŠâ
âWho is this?â
She reached for the paper.
But I pulled it away.
The name on the certificate made my heart stop.
Lucas Blackwood.
My brother.
A brother I never knew existed.
My father had another child.
My mother looked away.
âI wanted to tell you.â
âWhen?â
She closed her eyes.
âBefore everything happened.â
I felt betrayed.
âAnother secret?â
She started crying.
âI was protecting you.â
I laughed bitterly.
âEveryone says that.â
I walked away.
Because suddenly, I didnât know who to trust.
Then my phone buzzed.
A message.
Unknown number.
One sentence.
You found Lucas. Now find out why your father abandoned him.
I stared at the screen.
My father.
My mother.
Arthur.
Everyone had secrets.
And now I had discovered the biggest one.
I had a brother.
A brother everyone erased from history.
I looked at my mother.
âWhere is Lucas?â
She didnât answer.
She didnât need to.
Her silence told me everything.
She knew.
And whoever sent that message knew too.

The search for the truth wasnât over.
It had just become bigger.
