Chapter 6 - THE PERSON WHO WAS NEVER SUPPOSED TO RETURN

Clara knew something was wrong the moment she saw my face.
âWhat did he say?â
I looked at her.
âHe said my mother wasnât the only person he locked away.â
Her expression changed.
Like she already understood.
âClaraâŠâ
She slowly sat down.
âThere was someone else.â
âWho?â
She looked at the floor.
âYour grandfather.â
I felt the room spin.
âMy grandfather died before I was born.â
Clara shook her head.
âThatâs what everyone was told.â
Another lie.
Another secret.
âHow many people did Arthur destroy?â
Clara didnât answer.
Because she didnât need to.
The answer was obvious.
Too many.
We returned to the Blackwood estate that afternoon.
But something was different.
The gates were open.
The guards were gone.
The house was silent.
Too silent.
I walked inside carefully.
Then I saw it.
A picture frame on the floor.
Broken glass everywhere.
Someone had searched the mansion.
âThey were looking for something,â Clara whispered.
I walked toward my fatherâs study.
The safe was open.
The documents inside were missing.
Except one thing.
A single envelope.
I picked it up.
No name.
No address.
Only one sentence.
If Arthur knows you found the truth, run.
My stomach tightened.
Then a sound came from behind me.
A womanâs voice.
âVincent.â
I turned around.
And everything stopped.
An elderly woman stood in the doorway.
Her eyes were full of tears.
Her face was older.
But I knew her.
I had seen her face thousands of times.
In old family photos.
In my childhood memories.
In the dreams I barely remembered.
âMom?â
The woman covered her mouth.
After thirty years...
She whispered my name.
âVincent.â
I couldnât move.
I couldnât speak.
The woman who everyone said was dead was standing in front of me.
Alive.
My mother walked toward me slowly.
And the first thing she said destroyed me.
âIâm sorry I left you.â
Tears filled my eyes.
âYou didnât leave me.â
She shook her head.
âNo.â
Her voice broke.
âThey made me disappear.â
Then she looked past me.
Toward the mansion.
Toward the life I had known.
âArthur is not trying to hide the past anymore.â
She grabbed my hand.
âHeâs trying to erase the future.â
Before I could ask what she meant, the lights went out.
A loud crash came from upstairs.
Then Clara screamed.
âVincent!â
I ran toward the sound.
And when I reached the roomâŠ
I saw something that changed everything.
Arthur was standing there.
Holding a gun.
And beside him was the one person I never expected to see.
May you like
My father.
Alive.
