CHAPTER 7 — A NEW LIFE AFTER THE STORM

One year later.

Emma stood in a small garden holding her baby daughter.

The child was healthy.

Happy.

Alive because of Margaret.

The old maid sat beside her.

“You saved my life.”

Margaret smiled.

“No.”

“I only reminded you that your life was worth saving.”

Emma held her hand.

“You were the mother I needed.”

Margaret cried.

For the first time in decades.

She no longer felt like a servant.

She felt like family.

Meanwhile, Daniel lived alone.

He lost everything.

His wealth.

His reputation.

May you like

His family.

But the hardest punishment was knowing he destroyed the one person who truly loved him.
