CHAPTER 3 — THE BABY WHO DISAPPEARED

Margaret couldn’t sleep that night.

Victoria’s words haunted her.

Thirty years ago…

A baby had vanished from the Whitmore family.

Everyone believed the child had died.

But Margaret knew the truth.

She had been there.

She remembered a young woman crying in the mansion.

She remembered Victoria carrying a baby away.

And she remembered being threatened.

“Forget what you saw,” Victoria had warned.

“If you speak, your family will suffer.”

Margaret stayed silent for thirty years.

Until now.

The next morning, she went to the hospital.

Emma was awake.

“Margaret…”

The old maid sat beside her.

“I need to tell you something.”

Margaret opened an old wooden box.

Inside was a tiny baby bracelet.

Emma looked at it.

Her eyes widened.

Because she recognized it.

“My mother had one exactly like this.”

Margaret whispered:

“Because it belonged to you.”

Emma froze.

“What?”

“You were that missing baby.”

The truth was impossible.

Emma wasn’t just Daniel’s wife.

She was Richard Whitmore’s first child.

Victoria had stolen her identity and destroyed her life.

But why?

The answer was hidden in a document.

A document Victoria had spent thirty years trying to destroy.
