Chapter 2 — The Man Who Walked Out of the Elevator

The sound of the elevator doors opening stopped everyone.

Slowly

A man stepped out.

He was older.

Elegant.

Calm.

A dark suit.

Silver hair.

A presence that immediately changed the atmosphere.

The servants lowered their eyes.

Richard’s expression changed.

The anger disappeared.

The confidence vanished.

Because he knew exactly who had entered his home.

Adrian Vale.

The only person Richard Harrington feared.

Adrian looked around the destroyed hallway.

The broken furniture.

The frightened servants.

Evelyn on the floor.

Then his eyes stopped on Lily.

The little girl was still standing protectively in front of her mother.

Adrian’s expression softened.

“Lily
”

The girl looked at him.

“Uncle Adrian
”

Her voice cracked.

“He was hurting Mommy.”

Those words were enough.

Adrian slowly turned toward Richard.

“What did you do?”

Richard forced a smile.

“This is a family matter.”

Adrian walked forward.

“No.”

His voice was calm.

“That stopped being a family matter the moment a child had to protect her mother from her own father.”

For the first time in years
