Chapter 14 - THE FINAL RECORDING

Nathan was already in custody when David returned.
The police searched his office and discovered hidden accounts, false identities, and letters from David’s grandfather.
But the most important evidence was still missing.
The original recording from the night of the accident.
Thomas told David that his grandfather had died years earlier.
“If Nathan was still following his orders, someone else is giving him instructions now.”
David looked toward the station.
“Vanessa?”
“She’s ambitious, but she isn’t the person behind everything.”
David understood.
“Then who?”
Thomas handed him an old photograph.
It showed David’s grandfather standing beside a young woman.
The woman was Vanessa’s mother.
David’s stomach tightened.
“Vanessa inherited the plan.”
“She inherited the hatred.”
That night, Vanessa requested a private meeting.
David entered the interview room alone.
She sat behind the glass, her hands cuffed.
“You came to ask about my mother,” she said.
“Your mother worked for my grandfather.”
“She was more than an employee.”
“What was she?”
“The woman he loved.”
David said nothing.
Vanessa continued.
“Your grandmother forced him to abandon her. He promised my mother that one day the Blackwood family would lose everything.”
“So you married me to destroy my family.”
“I married you to reclaim what was stolen.”
“You tried to burn Lily alive.”
“She was in the way.”
“You tried to kill me.”
“You were in the way too.”
David placed the photograph on the table.
“Who gave Nathan orders after your grandfather died?”
Vanessa’s expression changed.
She looked toward the hidden camera.
“You already know.”
“Tell me.”
“Your mother.”
David stared at her.
“That’s impossible.”
“She wanted your father gone. She wanted you controlled. She hired Nathan to protect the family fortune.”
“My mother was protecting me.”
“She was protecting her power.”
David stood.
Vanessa leaned forward.
“Ask Thomas what happened the night your father disappeared.”
David returned to the mechanic’s shop.
Thomas was waiting outside.
David held up the photograph.
“Did my mother arrange your disappearance?”
Thomas looked away.
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because I discovered she had signed a second will.”
“What did it say?”
Thomas’s face turned gray.

“It named Vanessa as the final heir.”
CLIFFHANGER: David’s mother had planned for Vanessa to inherit everything—even before David married her.
