Chapter 9 - THE FATHER

Alexander read the note twice.
Then he looked at Elena.
She went pale.
“Elena.”
“Not now.”
“Elena, whose baby is this?”
She turned toward the window.
“Please.”
“We’re trying to save your child.”
“I know.”
“Then tell me.”
Elena closed her eyes.
“The baby is yours.”
Alexander stopped breathing.
So did I.
“What?”
Elena turned.
“Yours.”
Alexander shook his head.
“That’s impossible.”
It seemed impossible.
They had been separated for three years.
But Elena explained.
Six months earlier, when Vanessa found her, Cynthia arranged a meeting.
She told Elena Alexander had discovered the truth.
That he wanted to see her.
Elena went to a private clinic.
Alexander never appeared.
Instead, Dr. Pierce did.
Years earlier, before Elena’s disappearance, she and Alexander had undergone fertility treatment.
Several embryos had been preserved.
Alexander stared at her.
“You mean—”
“Pierce implanted one without telling me whose embryo it was.”
Elena discovered the truth months later.
The embryo belonged to her and Alexander.
Their child.
The baby had been born seven weeks earlier.
A boy.
Charles took him immediately.
Alexander sat down.
For the first time that night, the billionaire who had controlled rooms his entire life looked completely lost.
“I have a son.”
Elena nodded.
“His name is Noah.”
Alexander covered his face.
Then I heard an engine outside.
We ran toward the window.
A dark SUV had stopped near the gate.
The rear door opened.
Cynthia stepped out.
May you like
She had escaped police custody.
And she was holding a baby carrier.
