“A Baby Called Me Daddy” / Chapter 2 / 15

Chapter 2 - THE DOCUMENT THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

Adrian stared at the paper.

His eyes moved across every line.

Every word.

Every signature.

“No…”

Clara watched him carefully.

“What does it say?”

Adrian didn’t answer.

Victoria stepped closer.

“Give me that.”

Adrian immediately pulled the document away.

“No.”

The woman he was supposed to marry looked at him.

For the first time, she looked afraid.

“What are you hiding from me?”

Victoria’s voice became defensive.

“You’re believing a stranger who interrupted our wedding?”

Adrian looked at Clara.

Then at the children.

Then back at Victoria.

“She knew my family crest.”

Silence.

“She had a picture of me with someone I was told disappeared.”

Another pause.

“And my daughter called me Daddy.”

Victoria looked away.

That was the answer.

Adrian noticed.

And so did everyone else.

The guests who came to celebrate suddenly became witnesses to a family disaster.

Adrian opened the document again.

It was a custody agreement.

A document claiming that Adrian had willingly given up all rights to his children.

But the date was impossible.

He was overseas during that time.

He remembered.

He remembered everything.

“I was in Europe.”

Clara nodded.

“Yes.”

Adrian looked at her.

“How do you know?”

“Because my sister wrote letters to you.”

His face changed.

“What letters?”

“Hundreds.”

Clara’s eyes became emotional.

“She believed you abandoned her.”

Adrian froze.

“I never abandoned anyone.”

“I know.”

Clara’s voice became softer.

“That’s why I’m here.”

The little girl slowly walked closer.

She looked up at him.

“Are you really my daddy?”

That question hurt more than anything else.

Adrian dropped to his knees.

He looked at her face.

A face he had never seen before.

But somehow felt familiar.

“What’s your name?”

The girl whispered.

“Emma.”

He smiled sadly.

“Emma…”

She touched his hand.

“You look like my picture.”

Adrian’s eyes filled with tears.

“What picture?”

“The one Mommy kept.”

The room went silent again.

Victoria suddenly stepped forward.

“Enough.”

Everyone looked at her.

She had tears in her eyes.

But Adrian couldn’t tell if they were real.

“You don’t understand what happened.”

“Then explain.”

Victoria looked around.

She saw the guests.

The cameras.

The people watching.

She lowered her voice.

“Not here.”

Adrian laughed bitterly.

“Not here?”

He pointed at the wedding decorations.

“The woman I was about to marry just got exposed in front of everyone.”

He shook his head.

“You think there is a worse place?”

Victoria looked at him.

“There are things you don’t know.”

Adrian stepped closer.

“Then tell me.”

She stayed silent.

And that silence destroyed the last piece of trust he had.

Clara picked up her bag.

“There’s more.”

Adrian looked at her.

“What more?”

She pulled out another photograph.

This one was newer.

Victoria standing beside Adrian’s father.

Talking.

Secretly.

Adrian stared.

“My father…”

Clara nodded.

“He wasn’t just involved.”

She looked at Victoria.

“He planned it.”

Adrian felt his stomach drop.

Because suddenly he understood.

This wasn’t just a forgotten relationship.

This wasn’t just a family misunderstanding.

Someone had deliberately erased years of his life.

Then his phone rang.

Unknown number.

Everyone looked at him.

Adrian answered.

A man’s voice came through.

“Adrian.”

He froze.

Because he recognized that voice.

It belonged to his father.

The man who was supposed to be dead.

The voice continued:

“If you’re hearing this…”

A pause.

“Then they failed to stop you.”

Adrian’s face turned pale.

The entire room watched him.

The voice whispered:

“Your children were never the secret.”

Another pause.

“The secret was what happened the night your wife disappeared.”

The call ended.

And Adrian realized something terrifying.

Clara had not come to reveal a hidden family.

May you like

She had come because someone was still trying to hide the truth.
