Chapter 2: The Evidence They Buried

Amelia knew she had only minutes.
The fire had already reached the curtains.
She wrapped a wet blanket around herself and searched the room.
Her father had hidden the phone.
That meant he had hidden something else.
Something Margaret never found.
Behind an old painting, Amelia discovered a small metal box.
Inside were documents.
Bank records.
Property transfers.
And photographs.
Her hands went cold when she saw the pictures.
They showed Margaret meeting secretly with a businessman months before her father’s death.
The documents revealed millions of dollars had been transferred from her father’s company into hidden accounts.
Margaret wasn’t just trying to steal.
She had been planning it for years.
Suddenly, the bedroom window shattered.
Fresh air rushed in.
A figure climbed inside.
Amelia screamed.
But the man raised his hands.
“Amelia, wait.”
She recognized him.
Daniel Hayes.
Her father’s lawyer.
“You have to leave now,” he said urgently.
“How did you find me?”
“Your father planned this. He knew Margaret would come after you.”
Daniel grabbed the evidence box.
“Your father wasn’t sick. He was poisoned.”
Amelia stared at him in disbelief.
“What?”
“Your father discovered Margaret’s plan. She slowly poisoned him to make everyone think he was suffering from a disease.”
The truth hit harder than the fire.
Her own family had destroyed the man who loved her most.
Daniel helped her escape through the window.
As they reached the backyard, Amelia looked back at the burning mansion.
Jessica and Margaret stood near the front entrance.
Watching.
Not shocked.
Not scared.
Almost disappointed.
Margaret whispered:
“She found it.”
Jessica looked at her.
“Then we finish what we started.”
But they didn’t know one thing.

Daniel had already sent copies of the evidence.
And the world was about to learn the truth.
