CHAPTER 1 — THE IMPOSSIBLE MOVEMENT

For twenty years, Sebastian Lombardi had been trapped inside his own body.

The most feared man in Chicago could control politicians, businesses, and entire criminal networks with a single phone call…

but he couldn’t move his own legs.

That night, inside his mansion overlooking Lake Michigan, everyone expected another failure.

Another doctor.

Another disappointment.

Another person who would take his money and leave him exactly where he started.

But Emma Bennett was different.

She didn’t arrive with expensive machines.

She didn’t promise miracles.

She didn’t tell Sebastian what he wanted to hear.

She simply placed her hands on his back and listened.

Not with her ears.

With experience.

For several minutes, the room remained completely silent.

Sebastian watched her carefully.

He was used to people being afraid of him.

But Emma wasn’t afraid.

She was nervous.

She was cautious.

But she wasn’t intimidated.

"You're not looking at my injury," Sebastian finally said.

Emma continued examining the muscles along his spine.

"No."

His eyes narrowed.

"Then what are you looking at?"

"The years your body spent trying to survive."

For the first time in years, Sebastian had no answer.

Every doctor had focused on the damage.

Emma was studying everything around it.

The muscles that had weakened.

The nerves that had adapted.

The areas where his body had been compensating.

Then she stopped.

Her fingers pressed gently against a specific point near his lower spine.

Sebastian suddenly grabbed the armrest.

A sharp breath escaped him.

"What did you feel?" Emma asked.

He looked at her.

"I felt something."

Gabriel stepped forward immediately.

"Something?"

Sebastian didn’t answer.

Because he didn’t want to believe it.

Then Emma touched his leg.

"Try moving your foot."

A bitter smile appeared on Sebastian’s face.

"I haven't heard that request in twenty years."

"Try anyway."

Everyone watched.

Nothing happened.

Seconds passed.

Then—

Sebastian’s right foot moved.

Barely.

A tiny movement.

Almost invisible.

But everyone saw it.

Gabriel froze.

Sebastian stopped breathing.

The man who had faced assassins, betrayal, and war without fear suddenly looked terrified.

Because hope was more frightening than pain.

"No..."

His voice cracked.

"No, that’s impossible."

Emma stepped back slowly.

"It happened."

Sebastian stared at his own foot.

The foot doctors had called useless.

The foot everyone said would never move again.

And for the first time in twenty years…

it moved.

But before anyone could celebrate, Gabriel’s phone rang.

His expression changed instantly.

He answered.

Listened.

Then looked toward Sebastian.

"We have a problem."

Sebastian’s face returned to ice.

"What happened?"

"The people responsible for the bombing twenty years ago know about her."

Emma froze.

"Her?"

May you like

Gabriel looked at her.

"They know you made him move."
