Chapter 1: The Secret Behind Lily’s Silence

The question from Lily stopped the entire celebration.

“Mom… will you still love me?”

For a few seconds, nobody moved.

The laughter disappeared.

The music continued playing softly in the background, but inside the Miller estate, it felt like the entire world had gone silent.

Elena’s smile faded completely.

She looked at her seven-year-old daughter standing alone beneath the decorations, holding back tears she was trying desperately not to show.

“Lily…” Elena whispered.

But Lily immediately looked away.

She didn’t want anyone to see her crying.

Especially not today.

Today was supposed to be about the baby.

The baby everyone was already talking about.

The baby who had filled every conversation in the house for the last six months.

The baby who had a room being prepared.

The baby who received gifts before even being born.

And Lily…

Lily felt like she was slowly disappearing.

Mark noticed his daughter’s expression and walked toward her.

“Sweetheart, what makes you think we would stop loving you?”

Lily stayed quiet.

Her small hands squeezed the edge of her dress.

Finally, she whispered:

“Because before the baby came… you used to look at me like I was the most important person in the world.”

Mark’s heart broke.

Elena covered her mouth.

Because she suddenly realized something.

While they were preparing for a new child…

They had forgotten to remind the child they already had that she was still their whole world.

Elena immediately walked to Lily and knelt down.

She gently held her daughter’s hands.

“Oh, Lily…”

“You were never a chapter we finished.”

“You were the first page of our story.”

Tears slowly rolled down Lily’s cheeks.

“But what if you love the baby more?”

Elena pulled her daughter into her arms.

“A mother’s heart doesn’t become smaller when another child arrives.”

“It becomes bigger.”

Mark hugged both of them.

For the first time that day, the gender reveal no longer felt like the most important moment.

Because they had just discovered something much more important.

Their little girl had been carrying a fear bigger than herself.

And they almost missed it.
