CHAPTER 2: The Secret Behind the Disappearance

The news of Daniel's discovery never reached the public.
Isabel wanted to protect him.
She didn't want reporters.
She didn't want strangers asking questions.
She only wanted time with the son she had lost.
But three days after the DNA confirmation, Isabel received an unexpected phone call.
A private investigator.
The man she had hired years ago.
"Mrs. Carter," he said carefully.
"I found something."
Isabel immediately stood up.
"What?"
The investigator hesitated.
"The disappearance of your son was not an accident."
Her heart stopped.
"What are you saying?"
"There was a mistake during the hospital evacuation."
He explained that during the flood, several babies were moved between emergency areas.
A hospital worker had accidentally switched records.
Daniel was not abandoned.
He was taken.
Someone had changed his identity.
Someone had erased his connection to Isabel.
"Why would anyone do that?" Isabel whispered.
The investigator paused.
"We don't know yet."
But they soon found the answer.
The person responsible was a former hospital employee named Victor Hale.
Years earlier, Victor had been responsible for organizing the evacuation.
When the chaos happened, he discovered Daniel had wealthy parents.
Instead of returning him, he hid the records.
He believed the child could be used for financial gain.
But his plan failed.
Daniel was eventually separated from him and left alone.
For years, Victor lived knowing he had stolen a child from his family.
And now...
the truth was coming back.
When Victor was confronted, he refused to apologize.
"You think you can destroy my life because of one mistake?"
Isabel stared at him.
"A mistake?"
Her voice was calm.
"You didn't lose my son."
"You stole him."
Samuel stood beside his mother.
Daniel stood behind them.
Looking at the man who had taken away his childhood.
Victor looked at Daniel.
"You should thank me. Without me, you would have never survived."
Daniel looked at him quietly.
Then he answered:
"No."
The room became silent.
"You didn't save me."
"You took everything from me."
For the first time, Victor had no response.
Because the boy he thought he had broken...
was standing stronger than him.
Victor faced legal consequences for what he had done.
But Isabel refused to let anger control her life.
She had already lost too many years.
She wanted to spend the years ahead building something new.
May you like
A family.
Not a revenge story.
