Chapter 2: The Secret Hidden Inside The Moretti Family

Lucas Moretti had survived wars.

He had survived enemies.

He had survived people who wanted his empire.

But he never expected the person trying to destroy him would be someone he trusted.

That night, Lucas opened an old file from his private collection.

A file he had not touched in years.

The death of his wife.

Isabella Hayes Moretti.

Five years earlier, Isabella and their son Daniel had died in a car accident.

At least, that was what everyone told him.

The official report said the brakes failed.

The investigation said there was no evidence of sabotage.

Everyone told Lucas to accept it.

Move on.

Continue the empire.

But Lucas never believed it.

Because Isabella was careful.

Too careful.

She checked everything.

Especially when it involved their son.

Now, after Lily’s words, Lucas started seeing the past differently.

Someone had been inside his house.

Someone had access.

Someone knew every weakness.

And only a few people had that kind of access.

Victor Romano.

The next morning, Lucas called his private investigator.

“Open Isabella’s case again.”

The investigator hesitated.

“Mr. Moretti... that case was closed.”

Lucas stared through the window.

“My wife and son were murdered.”

Silence.

“And whoever did it has been standing beside me for five years.”

Hours later, the first piece of evidence arrived.

A hidden payment record.

Three months before Isabella’s death.

A large amount of money transferred to a mechanic.

The same mechanic who inspected Lucas’s car.

The name on the payment?

Victor Romano.

Lucas stared at the document.

His hands tightened.

The betrayal hurt more than he expected.

Because Victor was not just an employee.

He was family.

Meanwhile, Lily sat in the mansion kitchen eating breakfast.

For the first time in her life, she was sitting at the same table as Lucas Moretti.

A billionaire.

A man whose dining table cost more than her entire apartment.

But Lily did not care.

She was more interested in the pancakes.

“Mr. Lucas?”

He looked up.

“Yes?”

“Are you always this serious?”

Maria almost dropped the plate.

Nobody spoke to Lucas like that.

But Lucas simply stared at the girl.

Then something impossible happened.

He laughed.

A real laugh.

Small.

Quiet.

But real.

“No.”

Lily smiled.

“Yes you are.”

For the first time since Isabella died, Lucas felt something close to peace.

And that terrified him.

Because every good thing in his life had been taken away.

That night, Victor entered the mansion.

But he did not know Lucas was waiting.

“You should have let me die.”

Victor stopped.

The room went silent.

Lucas stepped out from the darkness.

Holding the evidence.

“The payment records.”

Victor’s face changed.

The mask disappeared.

“You were always smarter than people thought.”

Lucas stared at him.

“Why?”

Victor looked away.

“Because your father destroyed my family.”

Lucas froze.

Victor continued.

“The Moretti name ruined everyone around it. Your father took everything from us.”

“So you killed my wife?”

Victor said nothing.

And that silence was the answer.

Lucas felt his heart break.

Not because of Victor.

May you like

Because Isabella was gone.

And he had spent five years blaming himself.
