Chapter 2: The Secret Behind The Inheritance

Daniel stopped pretending.

The confident businessman everyone admired disappeared.

Only fear remained.

Sophia stared at him.

“Why?”

Her voice trembled.

“Why would you do this to us?”

Daniel looked away.

For years, he had been living a perfect life.

A luxury mansion.

Expensive cars.

A powerful family name.

But all of it belonged to Sophia’s father.

And there was one condition in the family inheritance.

If Sophia gave birth to a child, the entire Anderson fortune would be transferred to the baby.

Daniel would only manage the money until the child became an adult.

But if Sophia and the baby died before the birth…

Daniel would inherit everything.

“I had no choice,” Daniel finally said.

Sophia looked at him in disbelief.

“No choice?”

“You tried to murder your wife and your own child!”

Daniel’s face became cold.

“You don’t understand. I spent years building this life. I won’t lose everything because of a baby who isn’t even old enough to know my name.”

The room became silent.

Even the police officers looked disgusted.

But Clara noticed something else.

Daniel was not acting alone.

She remembered something strange.

A week earlier, she had seen Daniel meeting secretly with someone in the garden.

Someone from Sophia’s family.

Sophia’s uncle, Richard.

The man who had always hated Sophia because she inherited the family fortune instead of him.

When police searched Daniel’s office, they found hidden messages.

Payments.

Photos.

Plans.

Daniel and Richard had been working together.

They had planned everything.

The piano accident.

The blame on Clara.

Even the story they would tell after Sophia’s death.

But there was one thing they never expected.

A poor maid with nothing to lose.

Clara.

Sophia later found Clara sitting alone in the kitchen.

The maid was quietly cleaning a small cut on her hand.

Sophia walked in.

“Why didn’t you run?”

Clara looked up.

“What?”

“You knew everyone would blame you.”

Clara smiled sadly.

“I have spent my whole life being blamed for things I didn’t do.”

Sophia sat beside her.

“Why did you save me?”

Clara looked at Sophia’s pregnant stomach.

“Because twenty years ago, someone saved my daughter.”

Sophia listened carefully.

“I was young. Poor. Alone. Everyone ignored me.”

Clara paused.

“But one woman helped me survive.”

Sophia whispered:

“Who was she?”

Clara looked at her.

“Your mother.”

Sophia froze.

The woman who raised her had always told her that Clara was just a servant.

But the truth was different.

Clara wasn’t just an employee.

She was someone her family had once saved.

And now she had returned that kindness.
