Chapter 15 - THE TRUTH THAT SET ME FREE

Victor Moretti had spent twenty years hiding in the shadows.

He was the reason my childhood disappeared.

The reason my mother ran.

The reason so many people died.

And now he stood in front of me.

Smiling.

“You want answers?”

I stared at him.

“Yes.”

Adrien stepped closer.

“Don’t listen to him.”

Victor laughed.

“Still protecting her?”

He looked at Adrien.

“After everything you did?”

My eyes moved between them.

“What is he talking about?”

Adrien went silent.

Victor smiled.

“Tell her.”

“Adrien.”

My voice shook.

“Tell me.”

A long pause.

Then Adrien finally spoke.

“When I was sixteen, my father ordered me to find your mother.”

I stopped breathing.

“I found her.”

The room went silent.

“She was injured. Scared. Protecting you.”

My hands trembled.

“What happened?”

“I helped her escape.”

Victor laughed.

“You’re leaving out the important part.”

Adrien looked at him.

“I was too late.”

My heart broke.

“What does that mean?”

Adrien looked at me.

“Your mother survived.”

A pause.

“But she lost her memories.”

I froze.

“She forgot me.”

Tears filled my eyes.

“She forgot you?”

“Yes.”

Adrien’s voice broke slightly.

“She remembered one thing.”

“What?”

“You.”

The room became silent.

Victor raised his weapon.

“This emotional reunion is touching.”

Everyone reacted.

But before he could fire…

Isabella moved.

She stepped between us.

The bullet missed.

She fell.

“Isabella!”

I ran to her.

For the first time, I didn’t see a copy.

I saw a person.

A woman who had been used her entire life.

Victor tried to escape.

But Adrien stopped him.

The fight was brutal.

Years of anger.

Years of betrayal.

Years of pain.

Finally, Adrien forced Victor to the ground.

“It’s over.”

Victor laughed.

“No.”

He looked at me.

“You think truth fixes everything?”

I looked at him.

“No.”

I stepped closer.

“But lies destroy everything.”

Police sirens filled the distance.

For the first time in twenty years…

the truth was coming.

Months later, everything changed.

The Viscari empire was dismantled.

The people responsible for the crimes were arrested.

The hidden files were released.

My mother’s name was cleared.

And Isabella…

She survived.

She didn’t become my replacement.

She became my sister.

My real family.

As for Adrien…

People still feared him.

They always would.

But I knew the man behind the name.

The man who gave me his jacket when I had nothing.

The man who protected me when the entire world wanted me silent.

One evening, I stood beside him overlooking New York.

“You know,” I said, “for someone everyone calls a monster, you’re surprisingly human.”

Adrien smiled.

“And for someone who was supposed to disappear…”

He looked at me.

“You’re impossible to erase.”

I smiled.

For years, people tried to bury the truth.

They failed.

Because secrets can survive.

Memories can return.

And sometimes…

May you like

the person running for her life is the same person who eventually brings an empire to its knees.

THE END
