The lobby became completely silent.
Victoria stared at the old picture.
A younger version of herself smiled beside a woman named Charlotte.
Charlotte was holding a newborn baby wrapped in a pink blanket.
The little girl looked at Victoria.
“She said you would remember.”
Victoria’s breathing became unsteady.
“Who gave you that?”
The girl lowered her eyes.
“My mommy.”
Victoria stepped closer.
“What is your name?”
The girl hesitated.
“Emma.”
The name hit Victoria strangely.
Because Charlotte had once told her:
“If anything happens to me… her name will be Emma.”
Twenty years ago, Victoria had promised.
She promised she would protect Charlotte’s daughter.
But after Charlotte disappeared…
