Chapter 1: The Child Hidden From History

The room remained frozen after Marcus Vale’s final question.
“Ask her which child she actually gave birth to.”
Nobody moved.
Nobody breathed.
Eliza stared at the two newborn photographs displayed on the massive screen.
Two babies.
Two identical faces.
Two lives that had been separated before they even had a chance to begin.
Her hands slowly loosened around Oliver.
“No…” she whispered.
Damian looked at her carefully.
“Eliza… what is he talking about?”
She couldn’t answer.
Because deep inside, a memory she had buried for seven years was beginning to return.
The hospital.
The cold white lights.
The sound of crying newborns.
And a nurse who had whispered something strange that night.
“Mrs. Harlow… there was a complication.”
At the time, Eliza thought it was just the exhaustion of childbirth.
She had been told she gave birth to one healthy baby boy.
Oliver.
But now…
She looked at the second photograph.
And she knew.
Something had been stolen from her.
Arthur slowly stepped forward, struggling to remain standing.
“The second child was never supposed to disappear.”
Damian turned toward him.
“Then tell us the truth.”
Arthur closed his eyes.
“Seven years ago, Marcus Vale discovered that Eliza’s child was connected to a powerful inheritance. He knew if the child survived, his control over the family would disappear.”
Eliza’s face changed.
“You’re saying Marcus took my baby?”
Arthur hesitated.
“No.”
Everyone looked at him.
“He didn’t take the baby.”
A long silence followed.
“He took the identity.”
The monitors changed again.
A hospital security recording appeared.
The footage was old and blurry.
But one person was clearly visible.
Marcus Vale.
Walking through the maternity ward.
Holding a folder.
Changing documents.
Damian’s fists tightened.
“He changed the records.”
Arthur nodded.
“But he couldn’t erase everything.”
The screen zoomed in.
A small note appeared from the original hospital file.
SECOND MALE INFANT — TRANSFERRED UNDER PRIVATE ORDER.
Eliza covered her mouth.
“Where did they take him?”
Arthur looked toward Gabriel.
The room became silent again.
Gabriel lowered his eyes.
“I think…”
His voice shook.
“I think I already know.”
Oliver looked at him.
“Why are you looking at me?”
Gabriel stepped closer.
May you like
Because for the first time in his life…
he saw himself in another person’s eyes.
