Chapter 3 - The Secret Plan Behind The Lie

I watched the video three times.
Then four.
Then five.
Each time, I hoped I had misunderstood.
I hoped Brooklyn’s words meant something else.
But they didn’t.
“She’ll be gone before the end of the week.”
Those words kept repeating in my head.
This was not an accident.
This was a plan.
A plan to remove me.
A plan to make Callan hate me.
A plan to make the entire family believe I was unstable.
I sat in the dark kitchen, staring at the screen.
The same kitchen where I had been humiliated.
The same kitchen where my husband hit me.
But now it was also the place where the truth had survived.
I grabbed my phone.
I recorded the screen.
I saved every second.
Every lie.
Every piece of evidence.
Because I knew one thing.
The Harrington family was dangerous.
And I needed to protect myself.
Later that morning, Callan entered the kitchen.
He looked tired.
But not sorry.
That hurt the most.
He saw me standing there.
“You’re still here.”
I looked at him.
“Were you hoping I wouldn’t be?”
His face tightened.
“Don’t do this.”
“Do what?”
“Act like a victim.”
I stared at him.
A strange calm came over me.
Because yesterday, I wanted him to understand.
Today, I realized something.
He already understood.
He just didn’t care.
“I saw the camera footage.”
The color disappeared from his face.
“What?”
“I saw everything.”
Silence.
Pure silence.
For the first time, Callan looked afraid.
Not guilty.
Afraid.
“What are you talking about?”
I walked toward him.
“You know exactly what I’m talking about.”
His eyes moved toward the security monitor.
Then back to me.
“You watched it?”
“Yes.”
“And?”
I smiled slightly.
“And now I know the truth.”
Callan became defensive.
“You’re twisting things.”
“No.”
“You are.”
He stepped closer.
“You don’t understand my family.”
I laughed softly.
“You’re right.”
“I don’t.”
“Because I thought they were cruel.”
“But now I understand.”
“They’re worse.”
His jaw tightened.
“You need to give me that recording.”
There it was.
Not an apology.
Not concern.
A demand.
I looked at him.
“Why?”
“Because this will destroy my family.”
I nodded slowly.
“Exactly.”
His expression changed.
“Anastasia…”
“No.”
I stepped back.
“For the first time, you’re worried about someone getting hurt.”
The room became silent.
Then Callan said something I would never forget.
Something that showed me exactly who he was.
“You don’t know what you’re threatening.”
I looked at him.
“No.”
“I think I finally do.”
Before he could answer, Melissa walked into the kitchen.
Her eyes immediately moved between us.
She knew.
Something had changed.
“What’s going on?”
Nobody answered.
Then Brooklyn appeared behind her.
And when she saw my face…
Her smile disappeared.
Because she knew.
Somehow, she knew.
The truth was no longer hidden.
Melissa looked at me carefully.
“What did you do?”
I held her gaze.
“What did you do?”
For the first time, she looked uncomfortable.
Only for a second.
Then the old Melissa returned.
“You should leave.”
I smiled.
“Funny.”
“Yesterday you wanted me gone.”
“Today you sound scared.”
Brooklyn stepped forward.
“You’re bluffing.”
I looked at her.
“Am I?”
Her face changed.
Just slightly.
But enough.
Enough for me to know I was right.
They were hiding something bigger.
Something connected to why they wanted me gone so quickly.
Then Melissa’s phone rang.
She answered.
Her expression changed.
“What?”
A pause.
Then another.
“No.”
“That’s impossible.”
Everyone looked at her.
She slowly lowered the phone.
And for the first time in my life…
I saw fear on Melissa Harrington’s face.
“What happened?” Callan asked.
She looked at me.
Then at everyone else.
And whispered,
“The police reopened the investigation.”
My heart stopped.
Investigation?
What investigation?
Then Melissa said the words that changed everything.
“The bracelet.”
The room went silent.
Because everyone knew exactly what bracelet she meant.
My grandmother’s bracelet.
The one Brooklyn stole.
The one she claimed she never touched.
The one that had disappeared from my room after my wedding night.
And now…
Someone had found new evidence.
Brooklyn’s face turned pale.
Because she knew something.
Something nobody else knew.
And when the police arrived that afternoon…
they were not coming to question me.
May you like
They were coming for her.
