Chapter 4: The Last Promise

The front door burst open.
The bride's father walked inside with two security guards.
His smile disappeared the moment he saw the metal box.
"You were never supposed to find that."
The groom quietly stepped in front of his wife.
"It's over."
The older man laughed.
"You still think anyone will believe a dead woman's letters?"
Then Lily spoke.
"I have something else."
Everyone turned toward the little girl.
From inside her dress pocket, she pulled out a tiny digital recorder.
"My grandma told me to keep this safe."
The groom pressed play.
The room filled with the mother's voice.
"If you're hearing this, Richard killed the woman everyone thinks died in the fire... and now he's coming for me."
Then came another voice.
The father's.
Cold.
Calm.
Confessing everything.
The guards slowly looked at each other.
One quietly lowered his weapon.
The other stepped away from the old man.
Within minutes, police officers surrounded the cabin.
The recording, the letters, and years of hidden financial evidence destroyed the father's empire overnight.
As he was led away in handcuffs, he looked at his daughter one last time.
"I did everything for this family."
She met his eyes without fear.
"No."
"You destroyed it."
Months later, the bride and groom officially adopted Lily.
The antique gold locket was repaired and placed around her neck once again.
Inside remained the faded photograph...
