Chapter 11 - THE CELLAR DOOR

The plan became clear too late.

Victoria was not simply trying to hurt Lily.

She was trying to frame Beatrice.

Mateo searched the estate records.

At 4:17 that afternoon, someone used Beatrice’s staff code to open the medication cabinet.

Her code had been copied.

At 5:02, Lily’s backup inhaler disappeared.

At 5:40, one of the kitchen cameras captured Victoria entering the service corridor carrying Lily’s stuffed rabbit.

At 6:13, Victoria told Leo that Beatrice had been “emotionally unstable.”

At 6:50, she suggested Beatrice was becoming possessive of Lily.

Leo looked at the timeline.

“She was building a story.”

Mateo nodded.

“If something happened to Lily, evidence points at Beatrice.”

Beatrice’s stomach turned.

“Why?”

“Because you’re the obstacle.”

Leo said.

“You make Lily feel safe.”

Mateo added.

“And safe children talk.”

Leo immediately called the estate.

No answer from Lily’s security detail.

Again.

Nothing.

Beatrice’s blood went cold.

“Call the kitchen.”

Mateo did.

No answer.

Leo was already moving.

They drove back to the mansion faster than Beatrice wanted to remember.

The front gates were open.

One guard lay unconscious inside the security booth.

Alive.

Another was running toward the house.

Leo’s car had barely stopped when Beatrice opened the door.

“Stay behind me.”

Leo snapped.

She ignored him.

They entered through the front hall.

Silence.

Then a crash came from the kitchen.

Beatrice ran.

“Lily!”

She reached the service hall first.

Victoria stood beside the cellar door.

Lily’s frightened voice came from behind it.

“Bee!”

Beatrice lunged forward.

Victoria caught her by the hair.

Beatrice screamed.

She twisted free.

“Open the door!”

Victoria shoved her into the wall.

“She needs to learn.”

“She can’t breathe down there!”

Victoria’s face was wild now.

Nothing polished remained.

“She ruins everything.”

“Lily is a child!”

“She is Sofia’s child!”

The hatred in those words shocked Beatrice.

Victoria hit her.

Beatrice fell.

Then Lily began wheezing behind the door.

That sound erased Beatrice’s fear.

She got up.

Victoria hit her again.

Beatrice grabbed for the keys.

Victoria fought back.

They crashed into the kitchen table.

A wineglass shattered.

Beatrice felt glass cut her cheek.

She barely noticed.

“Give me the key!”

Victoria kicked it beneath a cabinet.

Then she struck Beatrice’s hand against the metal door.

Pain exploded through Beatrice’s fingers.

She cried out.

Behind the door, Lily whispered.

“Bee…”

Then nothing.

No cough.

No crying.

Nothing.

Beatrice screamed for help.

Victoria backed away.

For the first time, fear appeared on her face.

She had wanted a crisis.

She had wanted evidence.

She had not expected silence.

The front doors opened.

Leo entered.

And the world changed.

Minutes later, he was kneeling on the cellar floor.

Lily lay motionless in his arms.

Beatrice forced her swollen fingers to work.

Mateo arrived with the inhaler.

One dose.

Nothing.

Second dose.

Three unbearable seconds passed.

Then Lily coughed.

“Daddy!”

Leo held her.

Beatrice cried.

Victoria stood upstairs surrounded by guards.

Everything had happened exactly as the beginning of the nightmare promised.

But one thing was different now.

They had evidence.

Mateo entered the cellar holding his phone.

“Leo.”

Leo did not look up.

“What?”

“The rabbit camera recorded everything.”

Leo slowly lifted his eyes.

Mateo continued.

“Everything.”

Upstairs, Victoria heard him.

She stopped crying.

Her face went completely blank.

Then she did something no one expected.

She smiled.

“You think this ends with me?”

Leo carried Lily up the stairs.

His expression was terrifyingly calm.

Victoria looked at him.

“My father knows where all your bodies are buried.”

Leo stopped.

Victoria’s smile grew.

May you like

“If I go down, Leo Rossi…”

“So do you.”
