Chapter 12 - WHAT NOAH SAW

Dominic survived surgery.
Barely.
For the first time in years, the Vale mansion became quiet for a reason that had nothing to do with fear.
Police filled the property.
Federal investigators seized company records.
Margaret’s hidden accounts exposed almost fourteen years of theft.
Marcus survived long enough to accept a plea deal.
He told investigators everything.
The ambush.
Evelyn’s kidnapping.
Noah’s confinement.
The drugs used to keep him confused.
The threats against Helen Reed.
But one question remained.
Why had Noah stopped speaking?
Doctors expected a simple answer.
Trauma.
They were wrong.
Evelyn sat beside Noah in Dominic’s hospital room.
Clara was nearby.
Dominic slept under medication.
Evelyn held her son’s hand.
“Sweetheart, you can tell us.”
Noah looked toward the door.
Clara closed it.
“No one is listening.”
Noah whispered, “They said Dad did it.”
Evelyn’s face changed.
“What?”
“Bad lady said Dad hurt Mommy.”
Dominic’s eyes opened.
Noah froze.
Dominic stared at his son.
“That’s what they told you?”
Noah nodded.
“They made me watch.”
Evelyn covered her mouth.
Marcus and Margaret had shown Noah edited footage.
Dominic arguing with Evelyn.
Dominic shouting during an old business dispute.
Then footage from the ambush.
They convinced a two-year-old boy that his father had ordered his mother’s death.
That was why Noah hid from Dominic.
That was why he screamed when Dominic raised his voice.
Dominic’s eyes filled.
“Noah.”
The boy looked down.
Dominic did not reach for him.
He waited.
“I never hurt your mother.”
Noah began crying.
“I know.”
Dominic’s breath caught.
Noah climbed onto the hospital bed.
Carefully.
Then curled against his father.
“I know now.”
Dominic held him.
Evelyn turned away, crying.
Clara quietly moved toward the hallway.
“No.”
Noah called.
She stopped.
“Stay.”
Clara smiled.
“I’m staying.”
Helen entered with Tyler.
The twelve-year-old boy looked pale but happy.
His surgery had been scheduled.
Dominic had personally guaranteed every remaining medical expense.
Clara tried to protest.
He looked at her.
“You gave me my son back.”
“You don’t owe me.”
“No.”
Dominic glanced at Evelyn.
“We owe you more than money.”
Before Clara could answer, an FBI agent entered.
“Mr. Vale.”
Dominic looked up.
“We found another account.”
“What account?”
“Registered under your late father.”
The agent placed documents on the table.
“It contains twelve million dollars.”
Dominic frowned.
“Margaret’s?”
May you like
The agent shook his head.
“Clara Reed’s.”
