Chapter 2 — The Woman Who Thought She Could Buy the Truth

The silence inside the mansion was suffocating.

No one moved.

No one dared to breathe.

The blonde woman stared at the frozen image on the security monitor—her own hand slipping the diamond necklace into the maid's handbag.

"It... it's fake," she stammered.

"Someone edited that footage."

Her voice lacked the confidence it had carried only moments before.

The man in the blue suit didn't answer immediately.

Instead, he nodded toward the head of security.

"Show every camera angle."

One after another, additional recordings appeared on the screen.

Hallway camera.

Lobby camera.

Staircase camera.

Every angle captured the same act.

Every frame destroyed another one of her lies.

The woman's knees nearly gave way.

"I can explain..."

"No," the man interrupted.

"You've already explained enough."

The older woman slowly stepped forward, tears filling her eyes.

She looked at the maid—the young woman she had accused without hesitation.

"I'm... so sorry."

The maid lowered her head, unable to speak.

For years she had worked faithfully inside the mansion.

Yet it had taken only one accusation for everyone to doubt her.

The older woman removed a family heirloom bracelet from her wrist.

"It won't erase what happened," she whispered.

"But please... forgive me."

The maid accepted nothing.

She simply cried.
