Chapter 2 — The Board Chooses
Daniel froze.
His lips parted.
No words came out.
The confidence that had carried him for years disappeared in seconds.
"Elena..."
His voice sounded unfamiliar.
Weak.
Across the room, Patricia stood.
"Tell them this is a joke."
No one answered.
The Chief Legal Officer stepped forward.
He didn't even glance at Daniel.
Instead, he handed Elena a leather folder.
"The emergency board meeting has already begun."
She accepted it without hesitation.
Daniel reached for her arm.
She stepped away before he could touch her.
"You can't remove me."
His voice grew louder.
"I'm the CEO."
The lawyer finally looked at him.
"You were."
Silence.
"The Board voted thirty-eight minutes ago."
Daniel blinked.
"What?"
"The majority shareholder exercised her controlling rights."
Patricia's face turned pale.
"That's impossible."
The lawyer remained calm.
"The documents were signed years ago."
Chloe looked from Daniel to Elena.
"You knew?"
Daniel couldn't answer.
Because he hadn't known.
Not once.
Not ever.
Elena looked at him quietly.
"You spent years introducing me as your wife."
She paused.
"But never once asked who I was before I became one."
