CHAPTER 2 — The Video That Destroyed Everything

Two hours later, Daniel sat inside a small hospital conference room.

A police detective placed a laptop on the table.

“Mr. Carter, before we show you this, I need you to understand something.”

Daniel looked at him.

“The footage was not edited.”

The detective pressed play.

The screen showed the hallway outside Daniel’s house.

At first, nothing happened.

Then Evelyn appeared.

She walked toward Daniel’s wife, Sophia.

They were arguing.

No sound.

But the body language was clear.

Evelyn pointed angrily.

Sophia stepped back.

Then came the moment that changed everything.

Evelyn reached forward.

Not violently.

Not dramatically.

Just one small push.

But it was enough.

Sophia lost her balance.

Her body fell backward.

The room became silent.

Daniel stared at the screen.

His breathing became heavier.

He wanted to believe there was another explanation.

A misunderstanding.

Anything.

But there wasn’t.

The detective paused the video.

“Mr. Carter…”

Daniel didn’t answer.

His eyes remained locked on the screen.

Then the door opened.

A doctor entered.

Everyone stood.

The doctor looked at Daniel.

“We saved your wife.”

Daniel closed his eyes.

A wave of relief passed through him.

“But…”

His heart stopped.

“The baby didn’t survive.”

The words destroyed him.

For several seconds, nobody moved.

Then Daniel slowly looked toward the hallway.

Where his mother was waiting.

The woman who had caused everything.

When he walked toward her, Evelyn immediately stood.

“Daniel, please listen to me.”

He stopped.

His expression was empty.

“You killed my child.”

Tears filled her eyes.

“I didn’t know.”

Daniel shook his head.

“No.”

His voice was quiet.

“You knew exactly what you were doing.”

Evelyn collapsed into the chair.

“I’m your mother.”

Daniel looked at her.

“And she was your daughter-in-law.”

A painful silence followed.

“You didn’t just hurt my wife.”

May you like

His voice trembled slightly.

“You destroyed the family you claimed to protect.”
