Chapter 2: The Secret Emma Left Behind

After the funeral, Evan tried to fight.

He hired lawyers.

He threatened lawsuits.

He claimed my daughter had been manipulated.

But every move he made only revealed more.

Mr. Halden had prepared everything.

Emma had known.

She had secretly documented every conversation.

Every lie.

Every betrayal.

Every moment Evan tried to convince her that she was alone.

The truth was worse than anyone imagined.

Evan did not just want Emma’s money.

He wanted everything.

The house.

The company shares.

The trust.

Even the life insurance policy.

And Celeste had been part of the plan.

Three months before Emma died, she discovered a hidden account where Evan had transferred thousands of dollars to Celeste.

Money that belonged to the family.

Money meant for their unborn child.

When I saw the evidence, my hands trembled.

Not because I was surprised.

Because I realized how much pain my daughter had carried alone.

One night, Mr. Halden came to my house.

He placed a small box on the table.

“Emma asked me to give this to you only after the will was read.”

Inside was a tiny baby blanket.

Blue.

Handmade.

My daughter had been preparing for her son.

Along with the blanket was a letter.

I opened it slowly.

“Mom,

If you are reading this, I’m sorry I didn’t tell you everything sooner.

I was scared.

Not of dying.

But of leaving my child in the hands of someone who never truly loved us.

I know you will fight for me.

But please don’t fight because you hate Evan.

Fight because my baby deserved a chance.”

I pressed the letter against my chest.

My daughter had known.

She had known something was wrong.

And she had still been thinking about protecting everyone else.

Including me.

Meanwhile, Evan’s world began collapsing.

The company board removed him.

The bank froze his accounts.

The investigation uncovered financial fraud.

Then came the final piece.

The hospital records.

The night Emma died.

The doctors discovered something suspicious.

Her accident was not as simple as Evan claimed.

The brakes on Emma’s car had been tampered with.

And suddenly...

May you like

The question was no longer about money.

It was about murder.
