CHAPTER 1 — The Woman Who Wanted Them Dead

The sound of metal bending echoed across the empty cliff road.

Daniel felt his fingers slipping.

Below him was nothing but a terrifying drop into the cold ocean.

Above him was the only thing that mattered.

His wife.

His baby.

The black SUV hung halfway over the cliff, shaking with every second that passed.

“Daniel…” Emily whispered through tears.

Her voice was barely audible.

“Please…”

She looked down at his hand holding hers.

“If you don’t let go… you’ll die with us.”

Daniel looked into her eyes.

The woman he had promised to protect.

The mother of his child.

The person who had stood beside him through every difficult moment of his life.

He tightened his grip.

“No.”

Emily shook her head, crying.

“Daniel, please. Save yourself.”

He smiled sadly.

“I spent my whole life trying to find you.”

“I’m not losing you now.”

But neither of them saw what was happening behind them.

Victoria stood several feet away, watching silently.

No panic.

No fear.

Only satisfaction.

She had planned everything.

For months, she had convinced everyone that she loved Emily like her own daughter.

She had smiled at family dinners.

She had held the baby in her arms.

She had pretended to be the perfect stepmother.

But behind that smile was a secret.

A secret that could destroy everything.

And now, she believed the only people who could expose her were seconds away from disappearing forever.

Victoria stepped closer.

“You always were too emotional, Daniel.”

Daniel looked up.

His eyes filled with anger.

“You tried to kill my family.”

Victoria laughed softly.

“Your family?”

She looked at Emily.

“She took everything from me.”

Emily froze.

“What are you talking about?”

Victoria’s expression changed.

For the first time, the mask disappeared.

“Your father left me with nothing.”

“And everything should have been mine.”

Daniel realized something.

This wasn’t about revenge.

This was about money.

The inheritance.

Emily’s father had left his entire fortune to his daughter and her child.

Victoria had spent years trying to control it.

But Emily refused.

So Victoria decided there was only one way left.

Remove them.

Forever.

Suddenly, the rope holding the SUV snapped halfway.

The vehicle moved another inch toward the edge.

Emily screamed.

Daniel pulled harder.

“Hold on!”

But then…

A distant sound broke through the chaos.

Sirens.

Someone was coming.

Victoria turned.

Her face changed.

Because she knew exactly who it was.

The one person who could ruin everything.

May you like

A police officer.

And he wasn’t alone.
