The elegant family dinner was supposed to be a celebration.
Crystal glasses sparkled beneath the golden chandelier. Expensive dishes covered the long marble table. Everyone smiled as they congratulated Emily, the youngest member of the family, on her pregnancy.
Nobody expected a five-year-old girl named Lily to become the center of attention.
Holding her small stuffed rabbit, Lily walked around the table and stared at Emily’s pregnant belly.
Then she smiled.
“The pretty lady’s tummy is a pillow.”
For a second, everyone froze.
Then laughter filled the room.
Guests smiled at the child’s innocence. They assumed she was simply saying something adorable.
Emily laughed nervously.
Daniel, her husband, smiled too.
But his smile disappeared faster than anyone noticed.
