CHAPTER 2 â THE BABY WHO DISAPPEARED

Emily refused to believe Margaret.
âNo.â
She shook her head.
âThatâs impossible.â
Margaret reached into her purse and pulled out an old photograph.
A picture of a newborn baby wrapped in a pink blanket.
Around the babyâs neck was the same silver butterfly pendant.
Emily stared at it.
Her heart started racing.
âMy mother gave me this necklace when I was little,â Emily whispered.
Margaret nodded through tears.
âBecause I gave it to you.â
The guests began whispering.
Ethan looked between them.
âMom⊠are you saying Emily is your daughter?â
Margaret looked at her son.
âYes.â
Ethan stepped backward.
âThat meansâŠâ
His voice disappeared.
Emily noticed his expression.
âEthan?â
Margaret closed her eyes.
âThirty years ago, I had a daughter.â
âShe was kidnapped from the hospital three days after she was born.â
Emily froze.
âI was told my baby died.â
Margaretâs voice cracked.
âBut I never believed it.â
She looked at Emily.
âBecause before they took her, I placed that butterfly pendant around her neck.â
Emily touched the necklace.
A thousand questions filled her mind.
âIf Iâm your daughterâŠâ
She swallowed.
âWho are my real parents?â
Nobody answered.
Then an elderly man sitting in the back of the chapel slowly stood.
Everyone turned.
Margaretâs face became terrified.
âRichardâŠâ
The old man looked at Emily.
May you like
âI think itâs time she knows the truth.â
