Chapter 2 — The Hidden Trust

Chapter 2 — The Hidden Trust

The audit report sat beside Margaret’s folder.

A document she never expected me to see.

My father’s family trust.

The one he created before he died.

The one Margaret always told me was “complicated.”

The one she refused to explain.

My attorney opened the report.

“Your mother has been withdrawing money from the trust account for years.”

Jessica looked down.

Margaret’s expression hardened.

“That money was for family.”

“No,” my attorney replied.

“It was for Emma and Lily.”

My heart sank.

The trust had been created to secure Lily’s future.

Her education.

Her medical expenses.

Her stability.

But millions were missing.

My mother had been using the money.

And now she needed my signature to finalize a legal transfer.

A transfer that would remove my control completely.

“She called the police because she needed evidence,” my attorney explained.

“She wanted to prove you were an irresponsible mother.”

My stomach turned.
