Chapter 2: The Marriage Was The Real Trap

The next morning, I walked into my home office.
The same basement Ryan always mocked.
The place he called my “little pretend company.”
He never realized this room was the headquarters of my empire.
Multiple screens covered the walls.
Encrypted servers hummed quietly.
My employees had already sent me the recovered footage.
I pressed play.
The video showed Ryan sitting across from Patricia.
The date was three weeks before Lily’s birthday.
“I just need one mistake,” Ryan said.
Patricia smiled.
“She’ll make one.”
Ryan leaned forward.
“The court needs evidence that she’s unstable.”
My hands tightened.
They weren’t trying to leave me.
They were building a case against me.
Patricia continued.
“She’s obsessed with that business. Everyone knows she ignores the family.”
Ryan nodded.
“Once custody is mine, we sell the company.”
I froze.
Sell the company.
My company.
The one I built before Ryan ever believed in me.
The one I created while pregnant with Lily.
The one he secretly planned to steal.
I saved the recording.
Then I called my attorney.
Three days later, Ryan arrived home expecting me to apologize.
Instead, he found paperwork waiting on the kitchen table.
“What is this?”
I looked at him calmly.
“Your divorce papers.”
His expression changed.
“You’re serious?”
“Yes.”
He laughed.
“You think you can destroy me?”
I placed another folder beside him.
“No.”
I opened it.
“You destroyed yourself.”
Inside were documents showing every financial transfer.
Every conversation.
Every attempt to access my company accounts.
Ryan’s confidence disappeared.
“How did you…”
“You forgot something.”
I pointed toward the security camera.
“You lived in a house protected by my technology.”
For the first time, Ryan looked afraid.
That evening, Patricia arrived screaming.
“You’re ruining my son’s life!”
I stood at the doorway.
“No.”
I looked her directly in the eyes.
“You ruined his life when you taught him that love was something he could manipulate.”
She stepped closer.
“You think money makes you powerful?”
I smiled slightly.
“No.”
I looked back at Lily playing inside.
“Protecting my daughter makes me powerful.”
But Ryan still had one final move.
He filed for emergency custody.
His lawyer claimed I had staged the entire poisoning incident.
They argued I had created the situation to frame his family.
For a moment, the courtroom believed him.
Until my attorney entered one final piece of evidence.
A recording from Ryan’s own phone.
A recording he never knew existed.
The judge watched silently.
Ryan’s voice filled the courtroom.
“Once she loses custody, the company becomes easy.”
The room went quiet.
Ryan lowered his head.
The judge looked disappointed.
“This was never about the child.”
The judge removed his glasses.
May you like
“This was about control.”
And that was the moment Ryan lost everything.
