Chapter 1: The Party They Planned To Destroy Me

The police officer pressed play.

For several seconds, nobody moved.

The backyard that had been filled with laughter just minutes earlier became completely silent.

On the phone screen, the video showed Patricia standing behind the bar.

Her designer clutch was open.

The small white packet was clearly visible between her fingers.

Then Ryan appeared beside her.

Blocking the guests.

Blocking the truth.

Blocking everyone from seeing what his own mother was doing.

Patricia’s face turned pale.

“That’s edited,” Ryan said quickly.

Too quickly.

The officer looked at him.

“Edited?”

Ryan swallowed.

“She’s good with computers. She could have manipulated it.”

I almost smiled.

That was the excuse I expected.

For years, Ryan had underestimated me.

He thought my quiet personality meant weakness.

He thought because I spent nights working alone in the basement, I was chasing a fantasy.

He never understood that while he was sleeping, I was building a company.

A company that protected banks, hospitals, and government systems from cyberattacks.

A company now worth over forty million dollars.

I stepped closer.

“You’re right about one thing, Ryan.”

Everyone looked at me.

“I know computers.”

I tapped the screen.

“That’s why this video has a digital signature, encrypted timestamps, and a verification key stored outside this house.”

The officer checked the file.

His expression changed.

“This footage hasn’t been altered.”

The words hit Ryan harder than any accusation.

Patricia immediately pointed at me.

“She planned this!”

Her voice became louder.

“She wanted to embarrass us!”

I looked at her.

“No, Patricia.”

I shook my head.

“You wanted to destroy me.”

The officer walked toward the bar.

One of the guests moved aside and whispered.

“There’s something in the trash.”

The officer pulled out the white packet.

Patricia stopped breathing.

Ryan looked at his mother.

For the first time that night, they weren’t a team.

They were two people realizing they had lost control.

At the hospital, Brittany slowly regained consciousness.

Doctors confirmed something unexpected.

The substance inside the margarita was not a simple sleeping drug.

It was a dangerous sedative.

A high enough dose could have caused serious medical complications.

Especially if I had been the one drinking it.

The officer returned to the hospital room.

“Mrs. Collins, we need your statement.”

Brittany looked confused.

“Statement?”

The officer glanced at Ryan and Patricia standing in the corner.

“You were given a drink that was not meant for you.”

Brittany’s face changed.

She looked at Patricia.

Then Ryan.

“What are you saying?”

Nobody answered.

Because the truth was finally standing in front of everyone.

The people who claimed to protect their family had almost destroyed it.

Later that night, Lily sat beside me on her bed.

My seven-year-old daughter held my hand.

“Mommy…”

“Yes?”

“Daddy really wanted you to go away?”

My heart broke.

I brushed her hair back.

“Sometimes adults make terrible choices.”

She looked down.

“Are you leaving?”

I pulled her close.

“No.”

I whispered.

“I’m making sure nobody can take you away from me.”

But I didn’t know yet…

The recording had only exposed the first layer of Ryan’s betrayal.

Because when my cybersecurity team analyzed the house cameras, they discovered something hidden.

A second recording.

A recording from three weeks earlier.

A conversation between Ryan and Patricia.

And this time…

May you like

They weren’t talking about a birthday party.

They were talking about taking everything I owned.
