Chapter 1: The Folder That Could Destroy Them

The voice outside the honeymoon suite didn’t belong to Daniel anymore.

The confidence was gone.

The arrogance had disappeared.

For the first time that night, I heard fear.

"Sir… why are you holding that folder?"

I froze.

I was still on the floor beneath the bed, my wedding dress spread around me like a cruel reminder of the life I thought I had just started.

My phone was still recording.

My hands were shaking, but I forced myself not to move.

Not yet.

Not until I knew who was standing outside that door.

A few seconds later, I heard Daniel step back into the suite.

"What are you doing here?"

His voice was different.

Defensive.

A man who had been caught off guard.

Then another voice answered.

A voice I recognized.

"Looking for this?"

My heart stopped.

It was Thomas.

The hotel manager.

The same man I had trusted with my white leather folder earlier that day.

"I found it at the front desk," Thomas continued. "But I’m confused. The bride specifically told me nobody was allowed to access it except her."

Silence.

A dangerous silence.

Under the bed, I watched Vanessa’s heels stop moving.

Daniel didn’t answer immediately.

That told me everything.

He was thinking.

Calculating.

Trying to find a lie.

"She’s my wife," Daniel finally said. "Anything belonging to her belongs to me."

Thomas didn’t respond.

Then he said something that made Daniel’s confidence disappear completely.

"Actually, Mr. Carter… that’s not how legal ownership works."

My breath caught.

Thomas knew.

Maybe not everything.

But enough.

Vanessa whispered:

"Daniel…"

He ignored her.

"Give me the folder."

"No."

One word.

But it changed everything.

Thomas wasn’t afraid.

"I reviewed the documents when I placed them in the safe," he said. "And I noticed something strange."

A pause.

"The loan papers were notarized, but the signature page had been separated from the original packet."

My stomach twisted.

Separated?

Daniel had changed the documents.

They hadn’t just tricked me into signing.

They had prepared fake paperwork.

"That’s impossible," Daniel snapped.

Thomas remained calm.

"Is it?"

Another silence.

Then Daniel’s voice lowered.

"How much do you want?"

My eyes widened.

He was trying to buy him.

Even now.

Even after being caught.

Thomas laughed quietly.

"I don’t want your money."

Then his voice became colder.

"I want to know why a newly married man drugged his wife and searched her belongings on her wedding night."

The room went completely silent.

Vanessa stopped breathing.

Daniel said nothing.

Because there was nothing left to say.

Thomas knew.

He had heard enough.

Slowly, I reached toward the edge of the bed.

I needed to get out.

I needed to face them.

But before I could move, Vanessa suddenly spoke.

"Daniel..."

Her voice trembled.

"What if she heard everything?"

My blood ran cold.

Daniel turned toward the bed.

The room became silent.

Too silent.

His shoes slowly moved closer.

One step.

Then another.

I held my breath.

His shadow covered the floor beneath me.

Then—

The hotel alarm suddenly rang.

Everyone froze.

Thomas looked toward the hallway.

"Security has been notified."

Daniel stepped back.

For the first time, the man who had controlled every detail looked helpless.

And I realized something.

May you like

The night Daniel planned to destroy me…

was becoming the night he destroyed himself.
