Chapter 8 - THE DAUGHTER FIGHTS BACK

Grant leaned back in his chair.

“You should have accepted my offer.”

Hannah’s eyes filled with tears, but she did not lower her head.

“That isn’t my recording.”

Richard addressed the board.

“My daughter:in:law is responsible for the missing funds. Her mother’s attack was an attempt to intimidate our family and obstruct the investigation.”

I looked at Daniel.

He was staring at the recorder.

Then he spoke.

“That device came from Grant’s office.”

Grant smiled thinly.

“And you’re a fired employee with a criminal record.”

Daniel’s face tightened.

Three years earlier, he had pleaded guilty to theft.

What the board did not know was that Grant had ordered him to take company documents to a private warehouse, then accused him of stealing them when an audit began.

Grant destroyed people in layers.

First their reputation.

Then their credibility.

Then their hope.

Hannah slowly stood.

Everyone expected her to break.

Instead, she walked to the glass wall overlooking the city.

“When I married Grant, he told me I was lucky.”

She turned back.

“Every day after that, he reminded me how much I owed him.”

Grant’s smile faded.

“He controlled my money. My phone. My medical care. He made me believe no one would trust me.”

She looked at each board member.

“And right now, some of you still don’t.”

No one spoke.

Hannah placed both hands on the table.

“But one thing Grant never understood is that people who spend their lives controlling others eventually stop noticing the servants, drivers, cooks, assistants, and security guards around them.”

The boardroom doors opened.

Six Holloway employees entered.

A housekeeper.

A cashier.

A regional manager.

Two security guards.

And Grant’s former executive assistant.

Each carried evidence.

Photographs.

Messages.

Bank records.

One by one, they described threats, forged signatures, unpaid wages, and secret accounts.

Grant’s expression began to crack.

Then his former assistant placed a sealed envelope in front of Richard.

“These are the original transfer orders.”

Richard opened it.

Every document bore Grant’s signature.

Margaret suddenly rose.

“This meeting is over.”

The assistant looked at her.

“No, Mrs. Holloway.”

She placed one final photograph on the table.

It showed Margaret meeting Detective Mason in a parking garage.

“You paid the police officer.”

All eyes turned toward Margaret.

And Richard Holloway finally realized his wife and son had been stealing from him too.
