Chapter 3: The Secret Hidden Inside the Camera

Mateo and Valeria eventually left.
They believed they had won.
They believed two old people would disappear into the canyon forever.
But they made one mistake.
They kept recording.
Hours later, rescuers found us.
A helicopter pulled us out.
Doctors said our survival was almost impossible.
Alejandro suffered a broken leg and severe injuries.
I had several fractures and internal bleeding.
But we survived.
And when the police arrived, Mateo appeared.
The perfect son.
The worried son.
The grieving son.
He hugged me.
“Mom… I thought I lost you.”
I looked into his eyes.
The same eyes that watched me fall.
I almost believed him.
Almost.
Until Detective Ramirez placed a small plastic bag on the hospital table.
Inside was a memory card.
From Valeria’s camera.
“We found this near the cliff.”
Mateo froze.
Only for a second.
But I saw it.
Fear.
Real fear.
The camera had captured everything.
Not clearly.
Not perfectly.

But enough.
Enough to destroy the lie.
