Chapter 2 — The Secret Behind the Deed

Ethan refused to believe it.

People like him never accept the truth immediately.

They attack it.

“This is a joke,” he said.

He picked up the documents.

“You expect me to believe she secretly owns this place?”

Thomas calmly replied.

“She does not own it personally.”

He pointed toward Hannah.

“The family trust does.”

Margaret’s face changed.

She suddenly looked nervous.

Because she understood something Ethan didn’t.

This was bigger than a house.

This was power.

“You knew?” Ethan asked his mother.

Margaret looked away.

That was enough.

Hannah noticed.

“You knew about this?”

Margaret remained silent.

And that silence destroyed the last piece of trust Hannah had left.

I watched my daughter realize the truth.

Her husband had not only controlled her.

His mother had helped him.

“How long?” Hannah whispered.

Ethan stepped forward.

“Hannah, don’t make this dramatic.”

That sentence.

That exact sentence.

The same excuse.

The same dismissal.

But this time, Hannah didn’t lower her eyes.

“No.”

Everyone stopped.

Because Hannah finally spoke with strength.

“No, Ethan.”

Her voice shook.

But she continued.

“I spent two years believing I was the problem.”

She looked at her frozen hands.

“I thought maybe I wasn’t trying hard enough.”

Then she looked at him.

“But I was never your wife.”

A pause.

May you like

“I was your employee.”

For the first time, Ethan had no answer.
